Indian Judicial System: The Bitter Truth

Indian Judicial System: The Harsh Reality

When people can get away with the crimes just because they are wealthy or have the right connections, the scales get away against fairness and equality. The weight of corruption becomes so heavy that it creates a dent that forces the world to become slanted, so much so- that justice just slips off.

The above statement correctly suits the Indian Judicial system in the current scenario. Even after 75 years of independence, we live in a society where it is hard to get justice for the poor. The people in power can get away with their crimes, no matter how cruel it is. Justice isn't what people demand, but it is what they have the right to. What would the poor do of a stable government or a national survey, when it is not remedial for them? Is it what they must get, or is it what the government grants them? The current BJP (Modi) government has put many allegations on the previous government regarding corruption, scams, etc. and we too agree with them. But is their government corruption-free? Can the poor practice their powers? The center has launched many schemes and projects to help the poor, but does it help? They might get employment and some money in hand. However, when it comes to the authority they are still distant from that.

crimes, equality, indian judicial system, justice for the poor, justice, corruption, corruption-free, largest democracy in the world, corona warriors, officials in uniform, right to equality, politicians, filling pockets of officials

When farmers ask for loans from the money lenders, they are caught in the situation of a debt trap from which they can never escape. This is the cause of more than 10 deaths of farmers every day in India. Poverty, apathy, greed, injustice, and illiteracy add to their misery. If they can capture these foibles, then there might be no family in India who has to sleep without one full meal in a day. When the poor go to the court to seek justice, they return empty-handed, for there is no one to listen to their plea, or I should say that they do not have enough money to provide the officials. Is this what we talk about in the largest democracy in the world? Is this what we are up to for the past 75 years? If this is so, then the times of Britishers were much better where all Indians were equal.

In reality, people work all day not to earn at least a reasonable standard of living, but to give it to the officials. This is the case of the Indian Judicial system. No matter how much you suffer, no matter how much you toil, no matter how much you struggle. But, you will not get justice until you pay large sums. When something wrong has happened, you call the cops. They come just for formality but not to solve the matter. They treat the criminals as their masters who will keep their families happy, who will keep their pockets filled, and who will keep them up with the drinks. They are not working for the government but criminals. They are not providing justice to the poor but are keeping their masters happy. And, then we say that the highest number of crimes occur in India, itself. Why not? It is so because it is a culture in our country to free the culprits and punish the victims.

When you set the criminals free, it is just a matter of obvious that they will do the offenses more eloquently, then. Our constitution states that India is a secular country. Do we practice it, or is it just written? Who is to say? Why do religions have to suffer in India? Why are minorities the target? Why do some religions consider them superior? We show a lot of sympathy and anger when we see a Hindu ill-treated in Pakistan or any other nation, then why do we do the same in our country? Why do the Kashmiri pandits have to leave their homes? Even if the officials practice the same religion, they will not favor the people of their community. Why is it so? Because they do not keep them up with the money? Or, because they do not dare to go against evil?

When a common man goes to the police station to lodge FIR, do the cops lodge it at once? No, they make them come to the police station daily until they get handsome amounts. They don't respect senior citizens, too. When a 70-year old reaches the police, they either do not listen to his plea or ask him to come the other day. Thus, they are in a circle where they do not get justice but keep filling the pockets of officials.  The constitution provides us with six fundamental rights, which include the right to equality, stating that everyone is equal before the law. Is this the right to equality?

Is this what a common looks up to an official in uniform? Whenever a police official walks through the street, the people come out to salute him. But, what does he returns to society? We call them corona warriors in the time of the COVID -19 pandemic however, when you see them, even in such crucial circumstances, they were present there to fetch money. When the whole nation was under lockdown, some people were allowed to move out, for they filled the pockets of the people in uniform. However, not all policemen are the same. There are some, for whom the morals are more significant than the paper notes. They act as an inspiration for all, especially the youth. The whole nation must be proud of them. On one hand, our army officials are upholding the borders from other countries and rebels however, on the other hand, some people are busy devising wealth.

Some feel that we are privileged to be born in the largest democracy in the world, where we are free to express our judgments, opinions, and fight for our rights. We indeed are anointed to have been born in India, where people have the heart to sense others' pain, the spirit to come forward to endeavor rule for others, and the ability to come to streets to make the arrangement apprehend the strength of democracy. Do you have to wait for a rape or murder to swing into action? If not the police, then where will we go to seduce the law?

Numerous crimes are happening every day in India and across the world. We come across the scenes of mob lynching, eve-teasing, petty thievery, violence across streets and among neighbors, fights among people, and numerous crimes all over. Every day the media is flooded, with the accounts of thousands of cases in the country, then, what are the bureaucrats doing? I understand that the government cannot be everywhere, and hence, they decentralized their power to the states, legislative assemblies, and the local bodies. However, the authority to maintain law and order rests with the policemen. They also have their rights. Then, why do they act as puppets in the hands of the politicians? Why is it said that if you want to deal with the police, first contact the politicians? Police officers even have the right to punish them. Then why do they act as their servants? Is their self-respect so low that you can buy them from insignificant bills? Doesn't it show their sale? However, some cases reflect that all police officials are not the same. Some officers highlight their tenacity and their responsibility as policemen. Also, money cannot bribe all deputies.

  2. I believe that corruption will always persist because there are good people and there are bad people. Everyone has very different moral values. What we can do as individuals is that we can aware and educate more and more people around us as to what is morally right and do our bit and take necessary actions by involving in the societal systems
